Why choose Next Carrier?

What is Next Carrier?

In most cases, couples are unaware that they are healthy carriers of genetic conditions, as they show no symptoms and/or have no known family history.

Next Carrier is a preconception genetic screening test that helps prospective parents determine whether they are healthy carriers of genetic conditions that could be passed on to their child.

The test identifies the most common and serious recessive genetic disorders, either autosomal or X-linked.

Its primary goal is to reduce the risk of a child being born with a genetic condition.

It is important to understand that almost all of us, whether we are aware of it or not, carry genetic mutations. However, whether the mutation remains silent or leads to disease depends on how the altered gene is inherited.

There are two types of inheritance:

Autosomal dominant inheritance

The condition develops if just one altered copy of the gene is inherited from either parent

Autosomal recessive inheritance

The condition develops only when both copies of the gene one from each parent are altered

If both parents are healthy carriers of an autosomal recessive genetic condition, there is a 25% chance of having an affected child. If the condition is X-linked, the probability rises to 50% in male offspring.

Around 55% of people are carriers of at least one of the conditions screened by the Next Carrier test, which allows couples to be informed of their reproductive risk at an early stage.
